Melanthe groaned as she pulled up into the school, parking her small, old car into her usual parking space. Her stupid mother had been home for once, and had forced Melanthe to go 20 minutes earlier than she usually did. Not to mention the fact Melanthe was usually early in the first place, in order to hang out with her friends. Of course, nobody really believed they were only some friends. Most believed, because of their looks, that they were some type of gang. A load of lies, that was.
However, she was glad that she wasn't forced to take her sister to school as well. That would've been absolutely horrible. Of course, her mother thought that Saralynn was always in the right. Sara was the perfect girl. Like hell she was. Saralynn had probably already slept with someone. Not that she would tell anyone if she had. Especially not her elder sister that she hated. Then again, who at Lucy Madison hadn't already slept with someone?
Grumbling, Melanthe grabbed her bag, which held all her school things, and locked her car. The car was pathetic, really. But it worked for her. Melanthe closed the door and headed towards the courtyard of the school. It was where she always hung out with her friends at school. She didn't know if anybody would be there yet. She usually was one of the first, but she never was the first. Maybe, for once, she would be first. Thanks to her idiotic mom. But, hopefully, someone would already be there. Who knew? She entered the courtyard, and went over to the area that they were always at, at the back. Oh, lucky her. Nobody was there yet. She set her bag down and sat next it, waiting for someone to come around.

Another bright early morning and time to go to school! Every morning was a blast. No it wasn’t just getting himself ready and getting himself to school on time. He also had to get his little sister ready and get her off to where she had to be every morning. Thankfully, she was a morning person and it was easy to get her up and running in the morning. Well, it wasn’t good on the weekends when she was up at 6 AM watching cartoons and wanting breakfast. Not to mention, Alexandria was always excited for another day at Kindergarten.
Elliot’s life pretty much revolved around that kid. If she was sick, he’d stay home from school. If she got sick while at school, he’d ditch his school to go get her. The thing that really sucked was that she got out before he did. Meaning if he couldn’t find someone to pick her up for him and watch her for a few hours, he had to ditch school to get her himself. Basically, Elliot missed a lot of school. At least he had a good reason, right?
So, here he was, at school once more bright and early in the morning. Elliot parked his car in the parking lot, grabbing his backpack from the passenger side. Then he shut the door, locked the car, and made his way towards the courtyard. Normally, he was one of the first people there. Just because of having to take his little sister to school. There was times when he was literally the first person there. Today wasn’t that day, though. As he arrived, his hazel eyes landed on a familiar face. A small smile appeared on the teens lips as he quickly made his way over to Melanthe. ”Heya Cutie Pieee.” He greeted, dumping his backpack beside hers.
Then he sat down, right on the girls lap. ”You beat me here. Why?”

It wasn't often that her mother dragged her daughter out of bed. Hell, it hadn't happened since freshman year, the first day. After that, she was always gone in the morning, leaving Melanthe to get up on her own. Of course, that led to problems sometimes, because she wasn't a morning person, and sometimes overslept, and had to walk to school. That was a half-hour walk, too. So she was late, earning her detention sometimes. At least she arrived before they called home, saying she wasn't there. That was annoying. They had done it the first time she didn't get there in time, and her father, drunk, yelled at her. Wasn't fun.
But now, she had her driver's license and a car, so she drove to school, making use of the spare time she now had. Plus, she didn't have to ride the stupid bus to school. The bus was full of middle and high school kids. Not fun. Not to mention her annoying little sister rode it too. But when she got her car, she didn't have to do so.
She knew that Elliot Matthews, one of her absolute best friends, got to school early. She had actually expected him to be there when she arrived, but he hadn't. She knew he had a little sister in Kindergarten, which started before the high schools. Of course, it also meant he ditched at the end, unless he had someone get that little sister. He was a loving older brother to his sister, which Melanthe thought was absolutely adorable. She grinned when he appeared in the courtyard. He spotted her and shouted his greetings. She laughed, and replied. "Heya gorgeous."
A smirk crawled upon her lips, followed by another laugh, as he sat on her lap. She wrapped her thin arms around his shoulders and gave him a hug. "Well, short story, my mom was being stupid." She answered, her eyes dancing with merriment. "Long story, she was actually home for once, and decided I was late for school. Sometimes, I think she doesn't know I have a car to drive. I least she didn't make me take Sara. I probably would've killed her if she did."

One thing he really loved about his dear friend, was she didn’t mind all the cutie pet names he threw out at her. Elliot had gotten in the habit of saying them often. That he would blame on having a little 5 year old sister. It probably didn’t help that he was really immature and childish himself. Elliot knew that some people couldn’t stand being called little pet names. Did he care? No, not really. They could deal with it, or just stop talking to him all together!
His smile only grew as Melanthe greeted him back, calling him gorgeous. Ego feeder for the day! In his eyes, him and Melanthe were probably the hottest people at the school. Preps just weren’t attractive to him. Way too bright and too peppy. Yeah, sure, he was really happy and cheerful, but he didn’t shout ‘OH MY GOD’ after everything he said. Unlike most people with a big fat ego, he didn’t go around being egotistical and shoving it into peoples faces. No, he was a very modest person. Unless the person needed to be put in their place, that was a whole other story all together!
Laughter escaped the males lips as he felt arms wrapping around his shoulders, followed by her short story. ”Parents, being stupid? What a concept!” He exclaimed before she finished with her explanation about her mom. Another thing they had in common. She had a mom never around, and he had a dad that wasn’t ever around. Whenever they WERE around, they brought about major hell to their children. ”You should take her out to your car and point at it and make her understand you have a car. Then jingle the keys in ront of her face. Or..act like you leave..and then go back in the house and sleep.” Of course, those plans probably wouldn’t work. Oh well. ”But if she did, and you killed her, then she wouldn’t come around and wake you up!” Elliot said, turning his head to look back at the girl he was sitting on, a full grin on his face. ”Too bad that wouldn’t work either, huh?

Unlike some annoying people, Mel really didn't mind pet names. Some people just plain out despised them. People like her sister. For some reason, they just didn't like them. What was wrong with them, was the question Mel often thought when someone in her vicinity openly objected the use of pet names. They were names that friends, or more often, couples used for each other. Usually, it made a person feel special. But apparently not everyone. And Melanthe, ever the crazy, apparently childish girl, loved using pet names for her friends. Well, not everyone. Some of them didn't like them either, but she didn't get all upset with them. But Elliot liked them.
She knew most of Elliot's opinions on preps. Most of them, she shared. Preps were disgusting people that were usually these big fakes. It was horrifying to her that her own sister, someone that she had attempted to raise to be similar to herself, turned out to be a prep. The queen of the freshmen, no less. Another reason she was glad to have a car. It meant she could leave when one of Sara's "friends" came over. She would die in a place like that.
A grin replaced her previous smirk at his reply. "Dude, I know! Who knew?" Was her sarcastic reply. She knew parents were stupid. Hers were, anyways. One, they were never around. Two, they only stayed together because they thought their daughters would be horrified. Three, Sara and Melanthe both knew they were sleeping with other people. It wouldn't be a surprise to them if they suddenly gained a new sibling.
At his explanation, laughter bubbled from her lips once more. "That's not a bad idea. The only problem is that she never has the time for me to do so." She replied. "Ooh, that's true." She grinned as she answered, her mirth evident in her eyes. "Yeah, I don't think it would. Well, unless me being in jail counts as working. Personally, I'd rather not spend senior year in jail."

Of course, Elliot already knew that parents were stupid. ”Oh, oh, I knew!” Of course, he only had one stupid parent. The other one was decease. Had been for 5 years now. As for his living father, he was highly stupid. Not to mention completely blind to the fact that Elliot’s education was pretty much ruined because of having to care for his little sister. Which sucked, because he actually had talent and wanted to go somewhere with it. To him though, his little sisters life was more important now. If she could grow up and have a good life, then he’d be fine with his being completely ruined.
”Time can kiss my ass.” Elliot stated, laughing afterwards. Peoples lives ran by time. Atleast, his did, that’s for sure. He was constantly running late, or extremely early. Just like how he was always early to school, but always late to picking up his sister. It really did suck. ”Speaking of time..” The male dug out his cellphone from his pocket, checking the time. God, they still had some major time to kill. Elliot suddenly got up, grabbing his backpack and sitting down beside Melanthe. Unzipping it, he dug out a red apple from deep within the messy bag. Breakfast! Elliot took a bite before offering it to his friend. ”Wanna bite? I swear its not poisonous.”
Elliot laughed softly, ”If YOU went to jail, I’d have to do something stupid and come spend my senior year with you in jail.” Wait..he really couldn’t do that. ”I take that back. I’ll have to sell myself on the street to come up with money to bail you out.” He said, before starting to laugh once more. As if he would ever do that. No, he’d be more likely to actually steal money from people than sell himself on the streets.

Melanthe grinned at his silly ways. Of course, that was one of the reasons she loved Elliot. He was simply crazy. He didn't care much what others thought of him. He was playful, and often acted like a kid. But that was him, and really, it made him likeable. She also knew that he had a stupid parent. A really stupid one that left his son and daughter to fend for themselves. A five year old daughter, nonetheless. It was horrible, really.
A grin once again crept upon her lips. "Agreed." Was her simple reply to that. Time went too fast at times, too slow at others. Adults lived by time. Some students did too. She knew Elliot did. That was because of a stupid parent. Everything in a teen's, or even child's, life could occur because of a stupid parent. Or even stupid parents, like hers. As Elliot pulled out his cell to check the time, Mel did the same. It was habitual, really. She always liked to know what time it was. Especially in the afternoon, as her sister seemed to run on a schedule, and she never wanted to be in the house with her for too long.
Looking at the digital screen, she swore under her breath. Holy crap, they had a lot of time left. Sure, she was usually early, but never this early. And it made her quite irritable. As Elliot pulled out an apple, a grin stole upon her lips again. Today seemed quite amusing, judging by the amount of grins that appeared upon her lips. In any case, after he offered her the apple, she took it graciously. "How could I be sure of that?" She inquired, a smirk replacing the grin. Of course, she was only teasing. She took a bite of the succulent fruit, and promptly found apple juice dribbling down her chin.
Instead of wiping it off, she listened to Elliot's reply to her being in jail. She shook her head. "You couldn't do that. What would your adorable little sister do? Besides, I'd have fun beating all those biker dudes in arm wrestling." She laughed as she pretended to flex her arm muscles. "You couldn't sell yourself, either. I wouldn't allow it." But his next laugh reassured her that he would do no such thing should that happen.

Elliot stuck out his tongue at Melanthe as she questioned his apple. How dare she! Of course, he knew she was only kidding. That’s why he didn’t get offended. Heck, it took a lot for somene like Elliot to get offended. He was just too cheerful and happy to let most things get under his skin. It was definitely a good quality to have, too. Especially in highschool where you were bound to get teased and made fun of by others constantly. ”What, you don’t trust me anymore? I’m hurt, truly hurt, hun.” Elliot finally replied, but the grin on his lips contradicted his comment. It was obvious that he really wasn’t.
”Wow, good job. I think you’re more of a messy eater than my sister.” Elliot teased, continuing to grin at his friend. Of course, nobody could beat Alexandria at being a messy eater. Sometimes he thought that she did it on purpose, just to see how her big brother would react to a new huge mess on the clean counters or floor. Well, it seemed that Melanthe really didn’t care she was being a messy eater. Out of pure habit, he reached over and wiped off her chin for her. It wasn’t that he was OCD over messes, it was just a habit picked up from caring for his little sister for so long. Elliot then proceeded to wipe his hand off on his black skinny jeans.
”I know, I know.” That was something that Elliot thought about a lot. What his sister would do if he wasn’t around. Heck. She probably would have been taken away and put into foster care at this point. If it really got out, he was sure that him and his sister could easily be taken from his dad. Elliot wasn’t sure if that would be a good thing, or bad. It was a wonder how it hadn’t happened yet, considering how much school he missed. If only the teachers cared just a weeee bit more, right? Babe, you would beat those biker dudes so bad that they’d go cry in a corner of their cells and cut their wrists.” Maybe not, but it was still a funny thought. Elliot reached out, poking the flexed arm muscles. ”Dangg, you might be mistaken for a guy with those guns.”
Elliot shook his head, ”But if you were in jail, you wouldn’t be able to stop me.” He argued against her. Except they both already knew he wouldn’t. That would just be degrading and disgusting.

A giggle escaped her lips when Elliot pertly stuck his tongue out at her. In response, she did the same that. Her pink tongue poked out from between her lips in retaliation. She knew as well as he that they were both only teasing. She knew that it wouldn't hurt, or bother him. He hardly ever was bother by anything another said. "Nope. I don't trust you." She replied cheekily. "I'm sorry it hurts, though. Wanna kiss to make it feel better?" She inquired, giving him a hug.
She huffed at his remark. "I am not" She replied, crossing her arms in mock anger. It was hard to be a messier eater than Alexandria. A little five-year old compared to a seventeen year old? Five year old would make the larger mess. They were pretty much known for it, weren't they? Frankly, she was going to wipe it off, but his remark made her forget about it until now. "Gaah!" Was the odd sound escaping her lips when he wiped it off. She hadn't been expecting that, even though she had noticed it was a habit before.
Mel simply nodded in response. She knew that he loved his little sister dearly, but she also knew that it took a large chunk out of Elliot's possible free time so that he could care for her. She didn't wish the girl was gone, but she wished that perhaps there was someone quite willing to watch over the girl daily, or even better, their father to be better. There was many a movie that Elliot couldn't go see with them due to the adorable little girl.
At Elliot's reply, Mel laughed. "Heck yeah, I would." That, of course, would actually be impossible. Although she did participate in sports, well, softball anyways, she didn't have that much muscle. She was mostly skin and bones, a slender girl, with skinny arms and nearly no muscle. She giggled as he poked her "muscle", but poked her tongue out again at his remark. "I ain't gonna be mistaken for a guy any time soon, muscle or no." She replied.
A smirk lifted the corner of her lips. "Ah, but that's what you think. I have ways of doing the unsuspected." She answered mysteriously.

Elliot’s face lit up as she suddenly offered to give him a kiss to make him feel better. Except, before he could say yes or no, he received a hug instead. His bottom lip jutted out as he pouted. ”Aw..hugs are nice..but a nice kiss would make everything ten times better.” His hand lifted, a finger poking the side of his face, right on his cheek. ”Right here, a big fatty kiss.”
Even more laughter escaped the teenager as she acted like she was mad. ”I think you could give her a run for her messyness.” He continued to tease, a full on grin on his lips. Naturally, she probably couldn’t, unless she purposely tried to beat Alexandria. Then she probably could. Maybe. Elliot continued to laugh at her reaction as he wiped off her face. ”Sorry. Someones gotta keep that pretty face of yours clean.”
”No, you’d just make the bikers mad. Then I’d have to come save you from them. Along with saving you from jail. Wow, damsel in distress much?” Elliot said, laughing even more. Well, she really wasn’t, because she wasn’t going to jail anytime soon. It was quite clear that he had her back, though. They were so close that Elliot would probably take a bullet for the girl, if the need ever came. ”Nah..you’re too cute to be mistaken for a guy.” She was definitely way too feminine to be mistaken for a guy, anyways. Good thing for her.
A single eyebrow rose as she spouted out her next comment. ”Oh really? I never noticed.” He continued to tease, followed up by more laughter.

Laughter bubbled from her lips at she saw Elliot light up at the prospect of a kiss from her, then pouting when she gave him a hug. She giggled at his words. "Yeah, kisses are better." She said. Complying with his demands, she leaned over to give him a kiss on his cheek. "Better?" She inquired, smiling.
She huffed once more. "I could not. I am oftentimes a very clean eater, thank you very much." She told him. Which was quite true. She wasn't a prissy girl that balked at the sight of the mess, but she was naturally a pretty clean eater. She wasn't usually messy. But that was what happened with juicy fruits. Messes happened. Her bottom lip jutted out as he laughed at her reaction. "It's your fault it happened in the first place." She pouted, teasing.
"I could handle them." She replied, smirking. Completely untrue, of course. "Yeah, you'd think you would've figured that out by now." Of course, she really wasn't a damsel in distress, and they both knew it. But it was fun to play as if she was. Besides, she knew that he would always be there for her. Like she would always be there for him. He was probably her first friend here, and she would do anything for him. "Exactly." She replied to him calling her too cute to be a guy. Of course, if she was to be mistaken for a guy....that person would need glasses. Badly.
Her smirk continued to play on her lips. "Well, that's the point. You aren't supposed to notice that I can do things with me being somewhere else." Of course, she could do no such thing, but that wasn't the point.

Elliot couldn’t help but grin as his friend leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek. His head then nodded frantically afterwards before he replied with a simple, ”Much better. Kisses make everything better.” Well, not everything. In the eyes of a 5 year old though, they really did. Elliot had learned that over the years of watching his little sister. If she got a boo-boo, he would kiss it, and then she’d be happy once again. Elliot reached over, plucking his apple back from Mel’s grip and taking a bite out of it.
The male continued to grin as she argued against him. Of course, he knew deep down that she really was a clean eater. So was he, or at least he tried to be a non-messy eater. He really didn’t like having to clean up after his sister, and then himself on top of that. ”You’re welcome.” He replied, laughing softly. Aw, now she was going to blame him for her mess. Pshh. Yeah right. ”Not uhh. Its not my fault you took a big fatty bite out of it.” He argued.
”Oh, right, I’m sorry I ever doubted that you couldn’t handle them. What was I thinking?” Well, he was thinking he loved to tease Mel. At least she took it like a man and didn’t get mad at him for constantly teasing her. If she ever did get sick of it, and told him to stop, then he would. ”You need a Romeo to constantly come saving you, since you’re a damsel in distress. Or maybe a knight in shining armor?” God he paid way too much attention to fairy tales or silly kids movies.
”Well in that case, bravo. Because I haven’t noticed, and I probably never will.” Elliot finished, laughing softly. Of course, he knew just as well as she did that she couldn’t do such a thing. Oh well. So they both had an overly active imagination. That’s what made them get along so well!

Melanthe giggled at his overly excited answer and antics. He really was a child at heart. "Good. And kisses do make everything better." She affirmed, grinning. Although she probably wasn't as bad as Elliot, Melanthe was a kid at heart as well. She often went crazy, in a good way, over silly things, and was usually distracted easily. So, maybe kisses didn't actually make everything better, but most things anyways. "Hey!" She exclaimed as the apple was taken from her.
Mel continued to pout as he laughed at her. It was in all playfulness, of course. They always teased each other, and they both knew they'd stop if one of them said to. None of them ever got really mad at the teasing. "A Romeo? Like I need some stupid emo kid killing himself over me." Unlike some girls, she didn't want a Romeo. "A knight in shining armor sounds better, but it's so cliché." She replied, smirking.
"Well, good. If you noticed, I might have to kill you. I can't have someone in on my secrets. It's not healthy for someone to keep a big secret like that." She would never, ever kill him, even if he found out a secret of hers, which she didn't have. Mostly everything about her life, he knew. A relationship, even just friendship, wasn't good if there were secrets. But hey, she had an over-active imagination, and he did too. That was good...well, maybe not so good if she was imagining him dead. But she didn't mean it, in any case.

Elliot started laughing at Mel’s reaction to his stealing of the apple back. Well, actually first he chewed on the bite he had taken, swallowed, and then started laughing. ”What?! It’s MY apple. I didn’t give you it. I let you take a bite.” He replied, grinning at his best friend. ”But, if you want another bite, I guess you could have one.” He concluded, his shoulders shrugging as well.
”Aww, but isn’t that what all girls want? A guy to be willing to do anything for them, and kill themselves for them? A completely whipped guy?” Of course, that was only what some girls wanted, mainly the preps. The whole idea of being completely controlled by someone made Elliot disgusted. Especially because he really had no control over his life as it was. Elliot really couldn’t imagine being in a relationship right now. He hardly had the time to do anything as it was now. The whole idea of being with someone was a huge turn off at this point in his life. ”If I had shining armor, I’d totally be you’re knight. I don’t, though. So I guess you’ll have to find someone else.” He finally finished, sticking out his tongue once more at Mel. ”Sorry, and good luck.”
A small gasp escaped the male after hearing that she MIGHT have to kill him. ”You couldn’t, and wouldn’t!” He exclaimed, his brown eyes widening. Of course, he knew she really wouldn’t. ”Well, at least I would hope you wouldn’t.” That would be pretty sad to get murdered by your best friend. ”You’re a horrible person if you really would kill me. Besides, if you did, then YOU would have to take care of my sister.” That alone would make Mel think twice about ever killing Elliot. He knew he wouldn’t want to take care of a kid if he was someone else, but he really didn’t have a choice.

Melanthe pouted. "So? What if I wanted another bite of it? Geez, you'd think you'd let your best friend have more than one bite if she wanted one. Gosh." Of course, she was teasing yet again. Truly, she didn't want another bite. She really wasn't that hungry. She never had the time to eat breakfast since middle school, so her stomach didn't grumble too much in the mornings for food. "Nah, I don't need another bite."
"Who the hell wants some sappy guy that loved some chick before you, and suddenly changed his mind. And just falls in love at the site of you. Not to mention killing your cousin after marrying you, and being banished from the city. And then kills himself when he thinks you're dead? Mmm, no thanks." She wasn't a fan of Romeo, and never would be. She didn't even think much of him before reading the book in freshman year. And her English teacher put a lot of perspective on it. "Well, gee, thanks. Shining armor is hard to find these days. How'm I gonna get my knight, then? You're oh so helpful with it, too." She said, sticking her tongue out at him as well.
"You don't know what I would and could do, El." She responded, smirking. She would never kill him, she wouldn't even hurt him unless she was really mad at him. It was pretty much impossible. She loved him too much to do such things. "Am I not a horrible person already? Damn, I guess I haven't achieved that yet." She replied with a fake sigh. "Ah, you wouldn't want that to happen. You don't want my sister influencing yours. The horrors at that. You'd remove your influence on her with Sara's, which could only lead to bad things. Besides, if I suddenly brought home a kid, my parents would probably think it was mine, anyway."
