Adjusting the back on one of her white diamond earrings, Aurelia stepped off the escalator onto the hard marble floor of the shopping center. She hitched her handbag back onto her shoulder and began her walk towards her favourite shop, a vintage outlet called 1960
As she pushed open the glass paned door, a bell tinkled above her, signalling a cheery shop assistant to scurry over to welcome Rei. As per usual, Aurelia ignored the shop assistant and swerved around her to look at the season's latest collections. Aurelia sifted through the dozens of plastic covered sweaters that hung on the hangers. Nothing seemed to catch her attention. Sighing loudly, she gave up and headed towards her favourite section.
Over in the corner stood three headless mannequins, all modelling exquisite cocktail dresses. The first one was yellow and studded with pearls around the waist. Although it looked great by itself, it was never something Rei would wear. She turned her attention to the second dress, a strapless pink number made of satin. It was promising, but no comparison to the third dress of the lot. The third mannequin displayed a dark blue dress trimmed with lace accents that seemed to exude elegance and beauty, two qualities Rei thought she clearly possessed. Running a hand down the bodice, she turned to the awaiting shop assistant "Excuse me, may I please try this one?" an exotic accent escaped her pink mouth, an enticing mix of Italian and British. The shop assistant nodded, stepped forward and slipped the chosen dress off the now naked mannequin. As she handed it over, Aurelia felt a small quiver of excitement travel up her spine. She hugged the dress to her body and walked slowly into one of the brightly lit changing rooms.
Unsurprisingly, it fit her. Actually it fit her quite well. The dress gave her boyish frame the illusion of slight curves and even her hair looked much darker in contrast to it. Twirling round like a ballerina, Rei couldn't stop smiling at her reflection. She had to have the dress. She had to.
"Card or Cash miss?" the shop assistant asked her as she folded the dress in layers of white tissue paper. For Aurelia, the answer was automatic "Put it on the Mastercard" she replied whipping out the small sheet of plastic in one fluid movement, as if she had practiced dozens of times before. On her 17th birthday her father had finally allowed her to use the family account, the only thing he didn't know was that she would use it for every single purchase since. She didn't even bother looking at the price of clothes nowadays, she would just go straight to the cashier. As she waited for the woman to confirm her purchase, Rei heard the bell tinkle behind her as someone new came into the shop.

Schiller Harlow wasn't looking for anything in particular when she wandered into the crowded shopping mall. She had a good five hundred dollars in her purse from the last time she withdrew out of her Platinum card. She wandered round the first two floors of the plaza, occasionally stopping to admire a pair of shoes or accessories being displayed at the shop window. By the time her new heels were starting to agonize her feet, Schiller had found a decent place near the mall's trademark golden fountain to sit.
Schiller massaged the back of her heel and cursed Steve Madden under her breath, even though it was hardly his fault for causing her pain. When it had subsided, Schiller leaned back and observed the passing people go on with their shopping. She recognised a couple of Lordings students, and even a couple of school teachers but didn't bother getting up to say hi.
Something caught her attention in the front of a shop window. A glint of shimmery fabric. The shop was called "1960", which suggested that it sold vintage garments. Schiller wasn't normally intrigued by the whole vintage style of clothing, but the dress she had seen in the shop window mesmerized her.
A girl was checking out something she had bought as Schiller entered. She didn't have time to look at her carefully, for she headed straight for the dress she had seen in the window. She felt the smoothness of the yellow silk and smiled. It was perfect. Perfect for the upcoming school dance. Someone coughed behind her, the girl at the counter no doubt.
