Sunlight filtered through the foliage overhead onto the Honda Accord as it drove towards Smith Mountain Lake. It was a split decision she made at nine. She decided she'd go up to the Lake and swim. She had changed into her bikini and packed a lunch for her to eat up there. Driving down the highway in her bikini, she did attract some glances, of course. It wasn't everyday some chick drove on the highway in a bikini and large, bug-eye sunglasses. Her sunglasses weren't bug-eye, but many people remarked that they were too large and made her seem sort of bug-like, disproportional, not right. But it didn't matter what they thought. Mel liked them, and she thought they suited her fine. So, as usual, she wore them to block out the bright sun.
With a sigh, she finally pulled off the highway and headed towards the lake. It was a lovely Saturday, to be sure. Several clouds dotted the blue sky overhead, floating lazily over her. They were soft and wispy, and a pure white. No worries there. And there was not one glimpse of a puffy, dark gray cloud that would loom over them, shadowing and then letting a deluge of rain fall over people. There wasn't even sight of a gray one, besides the slight shadows of the white ones. There was a bit of a wind, but a soothing, cool wind, with only a hint of the autumn to come. The temperature outside wasn't sweltering hot, but enough for you to break a sweat fairly quickly. Warm enough for a swim, of course. The air conditioning in the car was turned off, the windows down and the air outside blowing Mel's hair around.
The day had started off fairly decently. She had woken up as she usually did, and grabbed a granola bar, like she usually did. She had thought of what she was going to do that day. Saturdays were days she always got out and did something. Reason? Sara's friends were usually hanging out around the house then. They couldn't do much else, as none of them were old enough to drive legally. And none of their parents or siblings wanted to drive annoying teen preps around town. So they hung out with the freshman queen bee. At her house. She disliked her sister greatly. Why did that little girl have to turn into that? Anyways, she had decided to go to Smith Mountain Lake early, so that she wouldn't have to deal with her sister. But, of course, she left a note saying where she was, just in case the bitchy prep had to call her for some emergency. Not that it ever happened, or would happen.
Turning into the parking lot for the beach area, Mel sighed in relief. She was glad to finally get here. Sure, it didn't take too long to get here, but it was a boring drive, even when listening to Cobra Starship the whole while. Driving was boring, especially if the drive was more than thirty minutes long. Sure, she had ached to drive when she was fifteen, but she didn't like long drives. Even if they did end up being fun. They always did. You usually ended up talking to someone, whether new friend or old, and had a great blast. It was always worth it, no matter what.
Melanthe shut off the engine and slipped out of her car, stretching in the high beams of the morning sun. She was already wearing her bikini, which happened to be white and pink, with several pink ruffles along the top and bottom. It was reminiscent of a child's bathing suit, but it suited her easily. She was a kid at heart, really. Mel walked along to the back and opened the trunk to grab an umbrella, blanket, towel, and various other things she would need at the beach. Being the kid she was, she also had a shovel and a couple of sandcastle buckets that already had a shape to them. She walked to the beach, and looked out at the blue-green waters of the artificial lake.
She looked around for a place to put her stuff. Being this early, there were plenty of place for it, but she wanted to the perfect one. One not too close to the water, but not too far away. Of course, she finally decided on the place, and stuck the umbrella in the sand. It was, of course, imported there. It was the farthest thing from natural for sand to be in a place where there was only a ditch before, with only the Roanoke River in it. The umbrella probably wasn't needed, but she might get sun in her face, and she hated that. Stretching again, she rubbed sun tan lotion along her limbs. She didn't usually burn, even when she didn't put the sun tan lotion on, but it didn't hurt to be careful. Not wanting to get in the water straight away, Mel flapped the blanket around before settling it below the umbrella. She looked around, and then sitting on it, pulling out a book. Although it didn't look it, Melanthe did like to read. Currently, she was reading a book entitled Weregirls: Birth of the Pack. So far, it was a good book. She wasn't really waiting for somebody in particular, but perhaps someone to talk to before getting into the water that just seemed to call her name. [/blockquote]
